Well, it has finally come. I will finally take my driver’s test today. I picked the worst week to take it seeing as how I just finished my last high school midterm exams ever. It was a long week. I’m soooooo excited for the test, though!! Any last advice before I take the test at 2:30pm EST? Thanks in advance!

Don’t speed, and try not to check your Facebook or ‘stagram.

Wash and detail your car, at least give it a good interior wipe down. Nobody wants to sit in a stinky messy car. Not saying yours is, but never hurts to start with a good impression.
And it might help to calm your nerves a bit.

When I took my driving test the only place I got marks off was right at the end about the time I noticed we were heading back to the DPS. I guess I got excited it was almost over and let my guard down and the instructor noticed.
So, point is, eyes on the prize, even to the very end. Its not over until its over. You’ll do great!

Thanks! I actually don’t have a smartphone, so I can’t check any social media anyway. Don’t speed though, I’ll try my best.

Well, I barely use my car right now since it was bought for just me, so it’s in good condition. I appreciate it!

They won’t tell you this, but demonstrating a handbrake turn gets you extra credit.
Good luck!

Good luck. You’ll do fine. I had my old mans K-car all shined up and smelling good. I still remember the tester taking her seat and complimenting the condition of the car, it helped put me at ease and set a nice tone for the road test. Oh yeah, and don’t cut across parking lot lines of the lot is empty. Treat them as lanes on a road. That was one trick they would use in Ohio to mark you down or fail you if they wanted to.

My only advice: You don’t get bonus points for proper powerslides. It boggles the mind, but they actually frown on such shenanigans.
Also, I don’t think they test on it anymore, but do yourself a favor and learn how to parallel park.

Play Bohemian Rhapsody really loud on the sound system. Examiners all love that. Good luck.

Not a problem, and best of luck on the test! I know they stopped teaching it because a lot of people almost never have to parallel park. But if you ever plan on living in a city, it’s a necessity.
You never, ever want to be this person:

Standard advice - pay attention to all of the signs, stop BEFORE the stop sign, even if there isn’t a white line painted on the road, and absolutely NO BURNOUTS!

Some common pitfalls to be aware of from my own experience and others I’ve heard from:
Speeding: Aim to travel BELOW the speed limit, not at it, and definitely not above it. I got dinged points for tickling the upper edge of my 35mph speedometer marker while focusing on nearby traffic in a 35mph zone. If there’s a decrease coming up, slow down before you reach the sign.
School Zones: Look for them near the DMV and be aware of their speed limit, because they’ll almost certainly have you drive through one of them. Same goes for one-way streets, on which the “gotcha” is needing to turn left from the left side of the road.
Stops. Full stop before the line, every time. If visibility to cross-traffic is poor, don’t start creeping up until after you’ve stopped.
Adhering to best driving practices every time: ALWAYS signal EVERYTHING. Always check your blind spot over the shoulder when changing lanes. So on and so forth.
Just keep calm, drive “by the book” rather than what you think is fine/safe in real-world driving conditions, and you should be fine. Good luck!

Just relax and pay attention. You probably already have the skills you need, just don’t freak out.
